How to Reduce Therapy Cost (1).png

How does payment work?

Practical Speech is a "private-pay" therapy practice; meaning that we have not signed in-network contracts with any insurance companies. This allows us to practice excellent, specialized therapy without having insurance companies dictate what type of assessments and treatments we provide. We are not “in-network” and do not submit insurance claims on your behalf to your insurance company.

Though we don't accept insurance directly, your insurance plan may have out-of-network benefits, which means that they may reimburse you for a portion of our session costs. We have partnered with Thrizer to handle the out-of-network process automatically for you. We cannot guarantee that your insurance plan will reimburse for services, but we are happy to provide Thrizer as an option so that you can find out upfront.

If you want to take advantage of out-of-network benefits using Thrizer, payment options are:

  • Pre-Deductible: You pay the session fee in full. Thrizer submits the insurance claim for you with no fees.

  • Out-of-Network Pay: You pay the session fee in full. Thrizer submits the insurance claim on your behalf, you receive reimbursement based on your benefits in 4-6 weeks. Thrizer keeps 1% of the session fee.

  • Thrizer Pay: You pay a copay for our sessions (your insurance plan copay + 5% of the session fee), instead of paying the full session fee.

We can help you verify if you have out-of-network benefits and how much your copay would be. Just send us an email at  hello@practicalspeechphilly.com to receive a link to check benefits yourself or include the following in your email and we can check for you:

  • First and last name of the person in need of services

  • Date of birth for the person in need of services

  • Name of the insurance provider

  • Member ID

How can I reduce the cost of therapy?

One way to reduce the cost of therapy is to replace in-person sessions with virtual sessions. We recommend scheduling in-person sessions at least once a month, and scheduling virtual sessions held over Zoom for the rest of the month. For more information on how this can be applied to your therapy treatment plan, please see our infographic below!

Do you offer any discounts?

Practical Speech offers a 30% discount for families who have 2 or more members receiving Practical Speech therapy services in same-day, back-to-back appointments.

Is there different pricing for a re-evaluation?

We want to make it easy for patients to come back after taking a break from therapy, so we don't charge for re-evaluations. Please let us know if you would like a re-evaluation after taking a therapy break and we will book you for an extended (45-minute) appointment slot. The extended appointment is more expensive than a regular session (but significantly cheaper than an assessment) but is necessary to give time to look at each domain (speech, language, feeding, myo).
